Skaros Castle

Just below Imerovigli village and gazing the ocean from 1207 AD, Skaros, the most important castle in Santorini, lies in ruins on the peak of the rock. Hike the trail to the end to reach the  hidden Chapel of Panagia Theoskepasti. The unobstructed 360° panoramic view of the entire caldera one can find there, is more that rewarding.

Pyrgos castle

Emporio village, was fortified by two castles, Castelli and Goulas. Goulas is a fortified square castle in the entrance of the settlement, where one can see the typical defensive methods of the past, with pots filled with hot oil to be poured over the enemies. Castelli is a fortress settlement of the post-Byzantine era.

Pyrgos Village is a typical Fortress Settlement, offering the ambience of Medieval Times.  On the hilltop lay the ruins of the Venetian Castle that became the capital of Santorini after the abandonment of Skaros Castle.
